Induction Day – New Students Year 8
To welcome and enrich the young minds of the new students.
To aid in the better understanding of the secondary school expectations and infrastructure It was a pleasure to receive the young and new students of Winchester Secondary School. The students of KS-3 were greeted by the SLT, Head of Key Stages and HOYS and respective form tutors. FTs shared the non- negotiables, planner and welcome packs. The team building sessions on Steeped Response –scenarios and soft skills were enthralling and the students really enjoyed it. After the break the Head of ICT and STEAM, effectively engaged the students with hands on activities. The activities evoked their expectations of their new school. The new students were briefed by Heads of Department, Head of Examination and careers regarding various opportunities and support provided by the school. Finally, they went on a school tour to familiarise the important areas and offices of the secondary school building along with the HOYS and FTs. The students were then escorted by the HOK, HOYS and teachers to the Bus Area. It was a very smooth induction day. |
Aim High Orientation – Key Stage 3
To help parents understand the key priorities and expectations of Key Stage 3
To provide the best educational and social experience which is stimulating and enriching, it is imperative that parents, teachers, and students together develop a plan to ensure a good beginning and the AIM HIGH ORIENTATION for the Key Stage 3 parents was one of the steps towards it. Ms. Harpreet welcomed the parents and introduced the secondary team to the parents. Ms. Harpreet, Ms. Chriselda and Ms. Nirmal shared the key expectations and priorities with the parents. Ms. Anna and Ashmi spoke about additional learning and career opportunities. Michelle and Ms. Iram Parent rep briefed the parents regarding their role, activities and how they worked closely with the school. Parents shared the feedback online and appreciated our teamwork put in together towards the success of the orientation. Key Stage 3 Aim High Orientation was a great success. Key Stage 3 students created an awareness among parents regarding the ISTEDAMET LELL HAYAH - Sustainability for life and both students and parents took oath on My water Bottle Project – say no to plastic.

The Year 8A Assembly: The 5 pillars of Islam
To help the students to appreciate and respect the teachings of the 5 Pillars of Islam.
On Tuesday 18th of September the students of Year 8 A students conducted their assembly on the 5 pillars of Islam. The students introduced and explain the 5 pillars of Islam; the 1st pillar was Shahaddatayn, 2nd Salat, 3rd Zakat, 4rt Sawm and the 5th Hajj. During the Assembly the students had different ways of presenting and explaining the 5 pillars of Islam; they did a role play followed by a poetry and a song. The assembly concluded with the question and answer session. Audience were confident to share their understanding.

The Year 8B Assembly: Win Green Week
To help the students understand the importance of sustainability and support the sustainable goals .
On Tuesday 25th of September the Year 8B students presented an assembly on the importance of a sustainable environment, innovation and infrastructure-in line with 2020 and The Year of Zayed. The assembly began with a role-play that compared the future and the past and what we need to do in order to sustain our future, through a script. Furthermore they also created displays on sustainability and the importance of Three Rs – Recycle Reuse and Reduce. To drive the concept further into the minds of the audience the students sang a song accompanied with music on the piano and question and answer session.

KSA National Day Celebrations
To help the students to appreciate and celebrate the National Day of KSA.

On Sunday 23rd of September during the registration time, the form tutor shared an interactive presentation about the National Day of KSA, students were given the opportunity to discuss and appreciate the history and culture of KSA. Students were keen to explore the past and present KSA and the royal family.

World Peace: AFC
On 2nd October, KS3 students were presented with the opportunity of a lifetime to participate in the 2019 Asian Football Cup being held in UAE.
The 2019 AFC Asian cup will be the 17th edition in the respective tournament series, wherein 24 countries from all the over the world will pit against each other for the prized cup. It will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 5th January to 1st February, 2019.
The students were encouraged by the official AFC mascots Mansour and Jarrah to compete for the role of captains for various teams. They were further informed about qualifying rounds wherein their creativity, knowledge, leadership, teamwork and passion will be gauged.
Students were also motivated to participate in the ‘Football Design’ competition by drawing innovative football designs out of hexagons. The selected one will be featured outside the football stadium in UAE.
Lastly, Ms. Meenakshi addressed the student body and guaranteed full support from the school.

Year 8C Assembly: Global Dignity
- To inform the children about charity , global dignity and adult interaction and to develop an understanding in children’s minds about these topics
- 8c’s students presented four acts based on global dignity charity and adult interactions. These acts developed an understanding about what happened in the real world and how to resolve it. For one if the skits we had Yash as a homeless person and Shenura and Omniyah were bullying him however Yoolim felt bad and donated money to him.at the end we had Hardick, present a speech about teachers day which was the day before.
Year 8D Assembly: Teacher`s Day
Students to present different ways to be more respectful to teachers.
On Tuesday, 9th October 2018, students of Year 8D conducted an assembly on RESPECT FOR TEACHERS. Assembly started with an introduction speech by Aryan after which they performed role play. Role play showed both, things to be avoided and things to be implemented in classrooms and schools, to be more respectful towards teachers. It was followed by display of posters designed by students of 8D.They also offered thank you notes to all teachers and Laylani dedicated a music as a token of their respect. A quiz activity was conducted by Alan. They discussed different activities and methods that can be implemented in schools. Keisha and Sreeyanka also disclosed their thoughts with the audience, referring to the subject respect for teachers. Finally Yazan gave a conclusion speech and also took feedback from the audience.

Enlighten the students on the dangers of cyber victimization and create awareness/campaign against cyber bullying

The surge in availability of smartphones, tablets, laptops and the internet has provided bullies with a new platform for their hurtful behavior. These advancements in technology mean that children and teenagers no longer only face bullying in school. It follows them home via their phone or computer and is always there. The students in their views listed out some dangers of cyber bullying as follows; Low self-esteem. Spending large portions of time alone and withdrawing from family, friends and social situations. Refusing to go to school or creating excuses to stay at home.

Pink Hand and Ribbon of Hope -BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
To create breast cancer awareness among the parents, students and staff of the Winchester School .
On the 13th October 2018, the students of Key Stage 3 organised the CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN for parents during the Settling in Parent Teacher Meeting. Parents were given Pink hand of hope to write Cancer awareness messages, all the messages written by the parents were displayed in the reception area. As a token of gratitude a Pink Ribbon of Hope was given to parents, this symbolises our care and love to the parent community. The campaign was well received by the students, parents and staff of Winchester School. What a great way to express our love , care and support to our parents students and staff.

MY WATER BOTTLE PROJECT - Istedamet Lell Hayah -- Sustainability for life

In line with Istedamet Lell Hayah , students of Key Stage 3 initiated MY WATER BOTTLE PROJECT , to curb excess usage of disposable plastic.

PEACE DAY and BREAST CANCER AWARENESS -MUFTI DAY
To create awareness among students on the importance of world peace. To encourage students to spread world peace and raise awareness on breast cancer.
On Thursday, 19th October 2017, The Winchester School celebrated Peace Day. Dress code of the day was pink and white, symbolising, Peace and supporting Breast Cancer month. It was heart-warming to see all students and teachers dressed in pink and white and has taken a keen interest in spreading world peace and supporting the breast cancer awareness. During the registration, time students were engaged in interactive presentation on Breast Cancer awareness and also given the opportunity to discuss on the importance of promoting world peace. Key Stage 3 students also initiated Pink Walk for peace and Breast Cancer Awareness. Students of Year 9 also voluntarily contributed to raise fund through Bab Al Taleem. What a great way to celebrate and spread message of peace and support to humanity.

As the country comes together to celebrate the Flag Day, it is a proud moment for all the residents of UAE to celebrate and honour the great day. On Thursday 3rd Nov 2016 during the registration time all KS-3 students were engaged in interactive presentation on UAE Flag Day and World Cultures. As part of world cultures, students also shared about their home country’s flags, costumes, souvenirs and other facts etc. Students also shared their views and wrote facts about world cultures in the given padlet link. Students have also signed up for Poem writing, collage making, photography competition etc. All Emirati students, student leadership body and Year 7 boys and girls were gathered near the flag post at 10:50 am to witness the flag hoisting followed by the National Anthem and speeches by students and principal. Parents were a part of the great celebration.

UAQ-MARINE CLUB- FIELD TRIP

From the 9thh to the 10th of December, students and teachers from Year 7 to 10 ventured on an amazing overnight trip to UAQ Marine Club, Umm Al Quwain. This was an amazing opportunity for the students, engulfing them in wet activities like Raft building and Kayaking. The trip also got its share of dry activities, such as Team Building, Wall Climbing, Giant Swing, Zip lining and an Obstacle course in mid-air.

WIN CARES WEEK- KS-3
To help the students understand the importance of helping one another. To help our students and staff to be a reliable promoter of WIN CARES.
To encourage and motivate students to appreciate the effort of teachers and staff as part of global dignity.
WIN CARES Week commenced from 1st to 5th October 2018. Students demonstrated initiative, maturity, high levels of independence and show respect and consideration for the needs of others including those with disabilities, less privileged, support staff, teachers etc . Students show care and consideration for others and develop the skills of active citizenship and embrace the motto of WIN CARES. During the proposed week students were engaged in several activities, and extended their love and care towards the school and community.

The assembly gave the students a platform to dance, recite poetry and showcase various art forms that bring a smile on the students faces and boost their moral and spirit. Furthermore the group also listed and explained the various reasons we should be happy and how it affects our lives. The limelight of the event was when the students explained the importance of family time and how it makes a difference to everyone’s life.

Bab Al Taleem Year 8:
- To help student understand the importance of charity and render support to the less privileged.
-To be able to raise money to support the Dubai Cares
On 1st of November 2018, the Year 8’s had their first Bab Al Taleem of the year, students eagerly volunteered and enthusiastically participated in the charitable event. Students sold books and games, they were very also eager to bake and sell cakes, cookies, pastries, cupcakes and muffins They were even keen to raise fund when they learnt that the funds raised would be donated to Dubai cares. To ensure health and safety our student volunteers displayed posters specifying the ingredients. Bakers were encouraged not to use milk and egg in food items and nuts were a complete ban. Furthermore, students selling food items were instructed to wear gloves and handed out tissues and plates while serving. The Bab Al Taleem was a pleasurable event filled with fun, excitement and great learning. All in all the Bab Al Taleem was a pleasurable event filled with fun and excitement. Students are anxiously waiting for the next Bab Al Taleem!
Celebration Assembly Term 1-Year 8
To appreciate the various achievements of students and staff in Term 1
On the 5th of December 2018, the Key Stage 3 organized the Celebration Assembly Term 1 where all the hard work of the students and staff was felicitated and appreciated. Year 8 team celebrated the success of students for excellence in academics, behaviour, attendance, Bab al Taleem etc. Certificates were given out to students to appreciate their consistent hard work and effort throughout the term 1. Principal`s Letter of Commendation, Star of the Month, 100 % attendance, etc. Certificates were also given to teachers who have put in continuous effort and encouraged their students throughout the term.
On the 5th of December 2018, the Key Stage 3 organized the Celebration Assembly Term 1 where all the hard work of the students and staff was felicitated and appreciated. To commemorate the martyrs’ sacrifice to the country in the field of civil, defense and humanitarian services.
On Wednesday, 29th November Winchester commemorated the Martyrs Day by lowering of the UAE flag at 8 am in school. During the registration time a presentation was shared in the class to commemorate the great heroes. Students shared their respect and honour through group discussions and reciting poems, They watched videos of the life of great martyrs. All Emirati students, SVG and student leadership body gathered near the flag post at 11:10 am, Our students also shared their understanding of Martyrs day to the students gathered at the flag post. There was a one minute of silent prayer observed from 11:30 to 11:31 am by all in honour of the great martyrs. The UAE flag was raised at 11:31 am along with the UAE National Anthem. It was a great day of honour and pride. We salute the great heroes of UAE. They will continue to live in our hearts and motivate in our every step to make the country proud. Great heroes are born when they country has great leaders to empower and motivate.

A kaleidoscope of colours, dance, music and cultures such as Arabic dance, Arabic poem, choir, band performance, talent show, henna application, football and volleyball matches, cultural hub, falcon show and Arabic delicacies, greeted the students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff of the Winchester School as part of an event to mark 47th National Day and International Day. Students, parents and teachers were in their national attires. The event through a wide range of programme provided many good opportunities and examples to promote the idea of unity in diversity, peace, respect and harmony. The atmosphere during the entire event was electric with sheer happiness. The smile count was at its highest, punctuated with the laughter, respect and regard for each other’s costumes, culture and traditions.

On Tuesday, 11th December 2018, students and teachers of Key Stage 3 went on an exciting field trip to the Aventure, nature’s park. Surrounded by thrilling obstacle courses and zip liners. Aventure Park is the first outdoor adventure nature’s park destination in UAE. The students were able to explore one of the UAE’s popular tourist attractions and at the same time, it was an excellent opportunity for fun-filled team building. The trip was very fruitful as the students bonded with each other and had lots of fun. They also made sure and got over their fears as they explored the area and enjoyed the different activities team building and adventure.

Healthy Living – Key Stage 3
To develop an understanding of healthy eating and the importance of sleep
On the 15th of January, the school doctor conducted an assembly on healthy living for the students of year 8, where she discussed the importance of having a healthy diet and sleep. Doctor discussed the key ingredients of a healthy life style and the harmful effects of fast food and freeze drinks. At the end of the assembly the doctor also clarified the doubts that the students had. The assembly was very informative.

Islamic Assembly – Key Stage 3

On the 15th of January, Mr. Omar and Mr. Aziz, Arabic and Islamic Department conducted an assembly to help the students understand the values of Islam and the 5 Pillars. They clearly explained the values that the Islamic religion propagates and how to be role models. Furthermore they explained the diversity advocated in the UAE, because of which different religions and cultures respect each other and live in harmony. The assembly was well received by the students and were grateful to the school for providing them with an opportunity to learn more about Islam.

LINGOFEST – Tolerance towards world languages
To create an awareness on the significance of language for peaceful coexistence in the society.
To instill the value of tolerance among students on world culture and languages.
Winchester provides platform for students to get the exposure of world languages and it was exciting to see how the students of Key Stage 3 were provided with numerous activities to collaborate with peers and research on world languages in an engaging manner for the entire week of Lingofest. Students were introduced to Lingofest by a video followed by group discussions and research, wherein classes were allocated countries to research on greetings and polite words. Students in pairs will engage in conversation to share each other’s knowledge about their respective countries. This will involve talking about their language, cultures, etc. Other highlights of the week was year assemblies focusing the theme of the week, know your partner, break time activities, video and poster making etc

WIN ASPIRES WEEK
To inculcate the importance of aspirations and dreams in young minds
Aspirations Week was organized from 3rd Feb to 7th Feb. Various activities were conducted all through the week. Students were shown a video on dreams, aspirations and setting short term and long term goals. After a class discussion, students were asked to set goals and career plans for themselves. Students wrote and exchanged positive messages for their friends and also discussed about how having a positive attitude could help every person make their dreams come true. They also created an ‘aspirational wall’ in their respective classrooms, where they put up their dreams and aspirations. Year 9 students were given opportunity to explore on career options through Year 9 Options Awareness Assembly and Taster lessons. Reading to Aspire was the last activity of the week. Key stage 3 students were eager to read stories to our enthusiastic FS kids

Bab Al Taleem Year 8 – Key Stage 3 ( WIN ASPIRES WEEK )

To be able to contribute to raise funds for Dubai Cares and support the Year of Tolerance.
On 7th of February 2019, the Year 8’s had their second Bab Al Taleem of the year during the Win Aspires week, students eagerly volunteered and enthusiastically participated in the charitable event. Students sold books and board games, they were also eager to bake and sell cakes, cookies, pastries, cupcakes and muffins .They were even keen to raise fund when they learnt that the funds raised would be donated to Dubai cares. To ensure health and safety, our student volunteers displayed posters specifying the ingredients. Bakers were encouraged not to use milk and egg in food items and nuts were a complete ban. Furthermore, students selling food items were instructed to wear gloves and handed out tissues and plates while serving. All in all the Bab Al Taleem was a pleasurable event filled with fun and excitement. Students are anxiously waiting for the next Bab Al Taleem!

To motivate and encourage the Emirati students and help them to be successful citizens of UAE.

The first ever Emirati Children’s’ Day was celebrated in UAE and Winchester was happy to make use of the platform to appreciate the efforts of our Emirati Children. During the registration time, motivational videos, interactive presentations helped the students to maintain a very high decorum of the day. The message was delivered by the students in the form of a role play that clearly explained to the students that perusing their goals in life is one form of personal happiness and life is impacted by the choices made.

Students took pledge on Earth Hour and created awareness among teachers and peers. This year Earth Hour was observed on Saturday 30th March between 8:30 to 9:30 pm and students were encouraged to share the evidence of how they celebrated the Earth HOUR with their friends and family.

Year 8A presented a wonderful assembly based on the true meaning of tolerance, which is to agree or support the opinions of individuals. They further added on how UAE incorporates tolerance by implement programs that foster respect, peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among people in the UAE. The girls of the class participated in a delightful song .

Celebration Assembly Term 2– Year 8
To appreciate the various achievements of students and staff in Term 2On the 26th of March 2019, the Key Stage 3 organized the Celebration Assembly for Term 2 where all the hard work of the students and staff was felicitated and appreciated. Year 8 team celebrated the success of students for excellence in academics, behaviour, Bab al Taleem Principal`s Letter of Commendation, Star of the Month, 100 % attendance, etc. were the main category of awards. Certificates were also given to teachers who have put in continuous effort and encouraged their students throughout the term. Students felt happy and felt satisfied to receive appreciation for all their hard work. They left the hall with confidence and pride.

The students are aware of that they are better privileged and are sensitive towards the less fortunate. Hence, they try their best to help society by participating in large numbers so that they can do their best in every possible. Bab Al Taleem is a platform for students to enhance their entrepreneurial skills

Needs and Wants By Student`s Counselor
To teach students about what they really need and how to differentiate between needs and wants.
On 16th of April, Ms. Rashmi Louis had conducted an assembly on Needs and Wants for all the 8th graders. This assembly aimed to educate students on how to differentiate between our basic needs and our wants, which is a crucial skill which 21st century learners must be aware about. Ms. Rashmi displayed an amusing and informative video on the same topic and all the students watched carefully. Many students had a positive feedback on how the assembly was carried out, however some students did suggest for the audio in the video to be louder and more audible.
